Workshop
If you have ever chipped or cracked a gemstone carving while setting, or not been able to find just the right carving for a special project, join me for a carving workshop. As a bench jeweler first and a carver second, I will share with you my techniques developed over 35 years of experience. During this hands-on workshop you will create your own finished gemstone carving ready to set in metal, or to stand alone as sculpture. A variety of gemstone materials and a beginners quick-start carving kit will be available.
The workshop will cover:
- Selection of carving material
- Development of the design
- Roughing out, preliminary shaping
- Diamond bur carving
- Refining the carving and polishing prep
- Bringing the carving to your desired level of polish
and, time permitting, setting your finished carving
